Oldham Carnival

Home » Oldham Carnival

Here we are again – with a stand at Oldham Peoples’ Carnival – a very cut down version this year, for one day only in the park and no carnival floats. The two intrepid Mikes (Lawrence and Donough) turned up around 8 am to put up the tent and technical equipment. Shaun turned up a little later, feeling a bit fragile and decided to adopt a purely decorative function, though was good company all day. I had a pass out for the morning shift by way of having my son and partner up for the weekend, but arrived by lunchtime.

Here’s Mike D, languishing in the heat (I’ve never seen anyone else who can stand up for 9 hours solid and still look fresh at the end of it). As always, Mike is at the ready to pick up any/all of the little jobs that crop up during the day…and it turned out he had immense patience to slide the plastic bags over our strut mounts, a tight fit to say the least.

As soon as I arrived Mike L disappeared with our laptop to help out the belly dancers (that’s what he told us anyhow). Apparently they needed him to help to play their music (and of course watch their performance).

Once Mike returned we had a busy spell taking photos of families and printing them out. We’ve made a few people happy and a few pounds for the society. We also had a couple of people really interested in joining the society. Fingers crossed. Before we packed up for the day, I asked Mike D to take a photo of Mike L and me with our pet spider…shown below. Thanks Mike!
