12th January was the tutorial night for the Square format “Cd cover” challenge using smart objects. The “aftermath meeting”, when you bring along the work you have done and show your techniques, will be in March. The details of the challenge are below. Meanwhile if anyone missed the workshop evening on the 12th or needs to revisit any of the techniques, please click on the text link below the pictures to see the video. The video is in two parts:-

part 1 =37 minutes…part 2=25 minutes.

Please follow the download instructions and save to your hard drive before watching, for a smoother show. Don’t forget, you can maximise the video window to fill screen by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner of the video player window.

Are you brave enough to watch all over again? If so click this link, but make sure you have sustenance with you when you watch!

The Challenge:-

To create an imaginary “recording company logo” as a smart object.

Use a 10 x 10 inch at 300 ppi file to create a square format poster.

Use the techniques below, in particular smart objects to create more than one example based on an imaginary artist/band and CD title.

Each cover must incorporate:

  • a logo with layers intact editable as a smart object
  • a smart object for the cover design
  • at least one layer mask or a layer stroke (or both)
  • text showing the name of the album and artist (text as smart object if you wish).
  • On the “aftermath night” I would like you to bring the files that you have created, with layers intact to show how you have used layers and smart objects. (Shy people will be allowed to bring jpgs!!!!)
