On Sunday 14th October, we took part in the L&CPU Novice Cup. This is a competition for prints and the only eligible persons to enter are Lancashire and Cheshire PU club members who have no photographic qualifications/accreditations and have not previously won external awards.
About the Day
There are two sections; colour print and monochrome print. Entries are A4 and unmounted. In each section there are six prints from six different workers. 22 clubs from the region took part and the competition was held at Eccles.
The Judges were Howard Tate, Andrew Pell and Stephanie Cook from the Yorkshire PU .
While the entries were being judged “in camera”, recent recipients of PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit showed their panels of images to the audience and explained how they had achieved their awards. They were:
- Eddie Leach CPAGB, Oldham PS
- Christine Johnson DPAGB, Warrington PS
- Steve Proctor DPAGB, Ribblesdale CC and Chorley PS
- Andrea Hargreaves MPAGB, Pontefract CC
Colour Section: Oldham PS were placed 3rd. Two members received awards: Andy Kerr (Judge’s Choice Award from Howard Tate) and Keith Ives (Commended). Congratulations to both!
Mono Section: Oldham PS were placed 9th.
Our overall placing with 6th, one place below Chorley, so not bad! Congratulations to all members whose work was used.
