L&CPU 2020 Interim Novice Cup

Introduction

The Novice Cup is a competition for club members in the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union, an organisation of which OPS is a member. In the past, it has required a club entry, organised by our competition secretary, but special arrangements have been made this year for eligible club members to enter themselves via a link to the competition upload system (that’s the L&CPU one, not ours!). Who is eligible is a bit of a grey area…the L&CPU say “It is difficult to define what is a novice photographer, but it is generally considered as somebody who hasn’t competed in a lot of national/international competitions, who doesn’t hold photographic distinctions, or who hasn’t been in a club very long.” The last criterion is misleading, because you might have just joined the club but have a string of photographic qualifications. In the Definitions section of the rules they say “A novice is a photographer without any form of distinction. i.e PAGB, RPS, FIAP and PSA distinctions.”.
So, use the criteria and definition as a guide and if you believe you are eligible, why not have a go?

Rules here – read carefully!

Live judging

The competition judging will be broadcast by Zoom on Sunday 11th October 2020. Even if you don’t enter, it will be very useful to watch the judging and understand what the judges are looking for.

Entering your Images

Entry to the interim 2020 Novice Cup has opened and entry is made on-line by individual club members using the link below

https://lcpu-portal.org/success

To enter you must create a new account on the L&CPU Club Competition Entry System.

This is surprisingly easy! Steps below:

Go to https://lcpu-portal.org/success. If you haven’t created a user you will be presented with the login screen.

If you created an account for the Interim Individual Competition your email and password is the same.

Please click on the ‘user registration’ link subtly marked in red on the right.

This will take you to the registration page where you will fill in ALL the details as per the screen grab:

Remember: your email address MUST be unique, you can’t share the same email address with another member. The entry code to register is 611760.

You will then be taken to the success page if all goes well.

An email will be sent to the address given in the registration form (it needs to be correct and accessible)

When you get the email you MUST click on the link in the email (or copy and past the link into a browser). Marked in red on right

This link will take you back to the login page where you can enter your details (you haven’t forgotten your password have you?) And when you login you end up at the entry page. If you don’t see this page just go to the Competitions menu and select ‘Interim Novice Cup‘.

Most of the above screen shots are from the previous incarnation of the L&CPU entry system. The important information is the same although the headings are different.
