OPS joint winners of OCC monochrome PDI competition

Oldham Photographic Society put on another sterling performance in the Oldham Camera Club Invitation Monochrome Competition on the 7th October, organised via Zoom. Thanks to Mike Lawrence for selecting our entry.

Fourteen clubs took part, from Kendal in the north of the region, Huddersfield and Ilkley, from Yorkshire, and North Cheshire PS in the south of the region. As always, our club was the most talkative, but that’s what we are – full of life and full of fun – but completely respectful once the judging began.

The judge was Rod Wheelans MPAGB FRPS FIPF Hon PAGB Hon SPF, who gave a masterclass performance of judging which sounded leisurely but was completed in record time…largely due to his concise comments, delivered with Rod’s special brand of humour…and lack of repetition.

Not only did we come joint first overall, alongside North Cheshire, but also took the Gold and Silver individual awards (sadly no real gold or silver involved!), both images earning a full 20 marks. However, Rod indicated his overall preference for Malc Doyle’s self portrait entitled “Alex” over Christine Widdall’s “Sirens”. Hopefully, at last, Malc will accept how good it is.
