On 10th October, we again won the OCC Monochrome Print Trophy that we won last year. The competition was held at The Oldham Baptist Church, Chaucer Street, was hosted by Oldham CC and was judged by Tillman Kleinhans ARPS EFIAP/g DPAGB BPE5* Hon LCPU.
Fifteen clubs took part in this annual print challenge, from Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. Each club entered 7 monochrome prints, with not more than 2 from any one photographer and there were some very fine images. At the half-time break, we felt that we were not doing too well, with an average of 16 marks for the 2 prints that had gone through the judging and we needed an average much higher than that to win. However, we had two images held back for marking later (“Above the Bar” and “Jack Rowbotham Right Cross”, both by Eddie Leach). In the second half, we had another two images held back (“The Royal Swan” and “Warrior Princess”, both by Christine Widdall). Of our 4 held back images, three of them went on to score 19 and “Warrior Princess” was one of the last four images in the competition that were Tillman’s favourites, and all four scored 20. (Best print from the 20s was “The Residence” by Wendy Stowell, Chorley PS).
The final result (with marks out of 20):
Above The Bar by Eddie Leach, 19
Hanging Tight by Aamir Sabzwari, 17
Jack Rowbotham Right Cross by Eddie Leach, 19
Ouch! by Mike Lawrence, 15
The Royal Swan by Christine Widdall, 19
Turning Japanese by Gill Brett, 17
Warrior Princess by Christine Widdall, 20
