Well the FIAP World Cup results are out at last – and that’s FIAP not FIFA!

FIAP is the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique, which translates as the “International Federation of Photographic Art”. FIAP was conceived in 1946 in the aftermath of the Second World War to bring together people from all over the world in friendship and to further the art of photography. The first countries to join were Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland and membership is now 91 countries. The World Cup for Clubs competition was created in 2001 and in December 2022, the 17th event was judged by a panel of three judges:

  • Mr. Marcel van BALKEN MFIAP, EFIAP/d3 FIAP Liaison Officer Netherlands
  • Mr. Mohammed MORCHIDI ESFIAP FIAP Liaison Officer Morocco
  • Mrs. Martina VASSELIN EFIAP, ESFIAP FIAP Liaison Officer Chile

Entry to the World Cup requires a set of 20 images from a minimum of 10 photographers with not more than 2 images per photographer, a tall order for many clubs and certainly a challenge for us, but UK clubs have had a great track record in this competition, so we thought we would have a go for the first time this season. The individual scores are added together to find a winning club and there are some individual medals to be awarded as well.

The results, due out on 4th January, were a little late, but here they are and we came a fantastic 5th place with 416 points…Yipee!!! We have 17 of our 20 images accepted for exhibition and an Honorable Mention for the Society. Well done also to Winners Rolls Royce, 422 points, Second Wigan 10, 421 points, 4th Catchlight (Northern Ireland) 419 points, 10th Chorley PS with 409 points. Our individual scores are still to come.

This is the set of images that we entered:
